Flower Maids and Wedding Maids

Dr. M went to his brother's house for a birthday dinner on Sunday. While he was there, Dr. M told his niece that we had so many bridesmaids that we were going to have to hold auditions. He asked Carly what she was going to do for her talent. i think she told him that she would sing and dance. Dinner conversation changed to other things but about 5-10 minutes later, Carly got up from the table, went to Dr. M, and made him lean down so she could whisper in his ear, "Pick me, Uncle M, pick me". Carly is the one who talks about getting ot be a Wedding Maid.

Last night, I went to my brother's house and told my niece Marie the same thing. I asked her if she was going to dance or sing. She told me she would sing since she can DO that! Also, she talked to me about being a Flower Maid.

I think it's cute that both kindergarten nieces have come up with their own titles.

Florescent Green?

I bought several clay/pottery pitchers yesterday at a thrift store. I primed them with Grey Flat paint. This morning, I woke up at 4:30 am and finally went to my garage to finish painting the pitchers the green of the wedding. They look florescent green! I almost like the grey better. And I've been thinking maybe I'd like to paint them brown. But I don't know if I'll use brown table overlays - so then wouldn't that be too much brown?

What do I do? I don't think the green is the vintage look I want to keep.

I want to be a "wedding maid"

Dr. M's niece is excited to be a "wedding maid".

While I was in DC for a business trips, my friends convinced me that I really should choose wedding colors I love instead of the practical color I was originally going for (Navy). So my wedding color is a dark teal blue (not easy to find) and a lime green.

I have a maid of honor, two bridesmaids (my nieces who are 19 and 18), two junior bridesmaids (my nieces who are 11) and 4-ish flower girls. The thing that is funny is you can't do a processional in an LDS Church wedding, so they won't be walking down an aisle (unless we get married out of the chapel), so why have the "wedding maids"? I want to honor them as part of my life.

so everyone is wearing teal or green. Just the flower girls are going to wear green or blue. The older bridesmaids have a crushed velvet fabric. What's great is the fabric (with 50% off coupons) has cost under $10 for the younger girls to create. the pattern cost .99 cents. So, considering most bridesmaid dresses are about $100 each, we're doing really well.

PLUS - I just got reimbursed for my wedding dress that I bought in China. American Express refunded me since I didn't get what I paid for. That's awesome. I do still have to have the dress made, but my co-worker says it will be done by the middle of February, when I go to my boss's wedding.

I'm engaged!

YEAH! To all those who have read this blog - I've been on a roller coaster and I can't imagine ending up anywhere better. I'm really excited and super happy! A little stressed - but really I'm happy.

I need to keep a running log of fun stories about this engagement. I have a hard time working on my computer all day and then needing to do stuff for the wedding.. and forget to write on the blog. We've got a wedding web site up and a date. My bishop is going to Denmark the day of my wedding, so we might end up with someone certified on the internet to marry us - I don't know. Also, a ward has the building I want, for the Friday before the wedding. I'm waiting for someone to call me back about that too.
